escrow fraud. Procedures/safeguards not

Many escrow
companies have been victimized by fraud in
the past few years, paying a heavy price
because of their lack of education and
preparedness. Some real life examples in
escrow offices:
1) An independent
escrow has $465,000 stolen and almost
closes it’s doors due to wire fraud
2) An independent
escrow has over $350,000 stolen, when
stolen refund checks are discovered missing.
3) A broker-owned
escrow has over $325,000 stolen, due
to an employee cashing escrow related checks
4) A broker-owned
property mgmt group found short $25,000;
broker spent $50K
in court to retain license

by fraud in the past, paying a heavy price
because of their lack of education and
preparedness. Some real life examples in
escrow offices:
1) An independent
escrow has $465,000 stolen and almost
closes it’s doors due to wire fraud
2) An independent
escrow has over $350,000 stolen, when
stolen refund checks are discovered missing.
3) And there are certainly a lot more
“tales” to tell!
